"On Your Own Adventures" - Hunting TV for the Everyday Hunter

Hunter by Ginger Baker

This past summer a new website and television show went on line, according to Bozeman based Randy Newberg, CPA , MWF member and producer, “for the purpose of providing a different message and image of hunting than what people have experienced, a message about the values of non-guided hunting by the everyday sportsperson”.  'On Your Own Adventures‘ is dedicated to the average, everyday hunter who does not buy hunting opportunities, who is non-guided, hunts public lands and is out there “on their own” and who lives by a conservation ethic.

Randy says that what motivated him to develop the program and website was that “what people have seen on TV and the messages on other web sites is not what I or other everyday hunters and anglers have grown up with.”  “Hunting is not about the trophy or score or fee hunting or canned hunting - which is not the norm. Most of the media and programs that are out there are suggesting that fee hunting and canned hunts are becoming the status quo.”  Not so says Newberg, “about 97 percent of American hunters are non-guided, non-fee based and most of the current shows don’t capture who the average hunter is or what we experience afield nor do they  include a real conservation message.”   He added that “we in Montana are blessed because we are connected and engaged daily with conservation, we live with it everyday and this is what I want people to see.” “I did this to provide some validity and voice to the average hunter while creating a place where the average hunter can experience and communicate about what is “Real Hunting” – no guide, no outfitters, no high fences, all on accessible lands.”

The TV show, which premiered in July 2009 can be viewed on the Outdoor Channel, Friday – 1:30 PM, Friday – Midnight and Sunday – 5:00 PM (Eastern Time) or watch for other times. The web-site can be found at:  http://onyourownadventures.com
