Let’s Put An End To Bucket Biology

Montana has some of the best native and wild fisheries in the world. Unfortunately, our fisheries are threatened when people illegally introduce unwanted fish species into our rivers, streams and lakes. Illegal fish introductions cause permanent and irreversible declines in fish, they spread diseases, and they ruin the genetics of local fish populations. Ultimately, illegal introductions increase management costs and reduce fishing opportunity.

As Montana anglers, we support stricter regulations, increased law enforcement, larger fines and penalties, and rewards for those who report illegal fish introductions.

Unite to Fight Illegal Fish Introductions!

Whereas, illegal fish introductions displace existing fisheries, resulting in a loss of fishing opportunity, and

Whereas, illegal fish introductions can cause permanent and irreversible declines in fisheries, and

Whereas, illegal fish introductions can lead to the spread of diseases that kill fish, and

Whereas, illegal fish introductions can lead to genetic contamination of existing native or sport fish, and

Whereas, illegal fish introductions raise fishery management costs and therefore costs to anglers, through increased hatchery costs, chemical or mechanical treatments, fisheries survey and monitoring and enforcement costs, and

Whereas, legal fish introductions made with proper biological analysis and public input are a legitimate and useful fishery management tool, and

Whereas, illegal fish introductions are done with no biological analysis, no public input and with no regard to the public ownership of and public interest in a fishery,

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned, are united with other anglers in opposition to the illegal and harmful practice of illegal fish introductions and we support increased education and enforcement against this harmful practice and increased penalties for those convicted of illegal fish introductions.
